Mel Edwards specialises in original wheel thrown ceramics with a focus on beautiful and unique reactive glazes. She works from her home studio near Devizes.
From an early age, Mel enjoyed playing with clay discovered in the soil of her parents' garden and would busy herself making little cups and plates for her dolls.
Mel enjoyed making hand built pieces when she was in school, but on reaching college she was introduced to the pottery wheel. From there she has never looked back and every day she touches clay, creating more and more unique designs to use in the home.
After loosing her beloved husband to a brain tumour, Mel has immersed herself even more in creating finding it immensely healing.
Being a member of the Westcountry Potters Association, she always takes the opportunity to join in with social firing days, where together they create Raku. Raku is an ancient firing technique involving fire, smoke and water. Each piece is beautifully unique as the fire affects the the glaze in many ways and produces the most amazing colours, metallic flushes or crackle. Mel loves the timeless randomness and beauty of these pieces.
