About Maria

Maria creates kiln-formed glass from her home studio near Swindon, making work that explores colour, light and the drama of glass.

Her route into glass began with stained glass, but she was soon drawn to the possibilities of fusing: building surfaces in layers, letting transparent and opaque glass shift against one another, and using heat to transform careful compositions into luminous, tactile objects.

With a background in physics, Maria is especially interested in the way glass bends, holds and releases light. That curiosity runs through her work, from richly coloured panels to smaller decorative pieces designed to bring a glimmer of art into everyday spaces. Maria’s practice is experimental and process-led.

She works with sheet glass, powders and frits, using cutting, layering, kiln-forming and cold-working techniques to create pieces with depth, rhythm and material presence

Her recent work also explores the meeting point between glass and print-based processes, bringing painterly and graphic qualities into fused glass.

Each piece is made by hand, shaped by both intention and kiln alchemy. The result is contemporary glass that feels joyful, intricate and alive with light.
